Island Style: Data Collection and Building Morale
On October 31st, HTI closed the doors at its physical location for Staff Appreciation Day, the same day the OTM9 class held its Microsoft Excel 2007 class at Aiea Bowling Alley as a fun way to learn the concept of data collection and populating worksheets. Students collected a variety of data and created templates to organize it. Worksheets were formatted to replicate the score board, and different formulas were used to find totals, maximum, minimum and average bowling scores, and so forth using the frames from two games. All but two students were in attendance, as well as HTI Staff (Aunty Lei, Aunty Lurline, Aunty Naomi, Makamae, Noe and Hoku). Front Desk Admin Asst Lei Charles laughs out loud when sharing, “We had so much fun! I couldn’t believe all of us – so different in our ways, and yet we laughed so hard, tears came to our eyes!” Noe Kane, Keyboarding Instructor, delighted, “It was so good to see the staff and students laughing and having a good time with each other.”
HTI staff bowled for two hours, and many of the students were lucky enough to bowl strikes along with them. A few bowled some doubles. The day ended on a great note, being it was Halloween and all. The HTI `ohana truly enjoyed themselves and fellowshipped with one another more by cheering and uplifting each other! The following class day, the students took the frames and scores they bowled to create their worksheets using the software application in which they’re intending to become certified.
