Community Reinvestment: Kanewai Lo'i
OTM6 students and their families visited Kanewai Lo`i on Saturday, December 5, 2009. Groups from other schools and organizations joined in on the fun, and more than 50 people helped the leaders and instructors at the taro patch growing next to Kamakakuokalani – aka University of Hawai`i Center for Hawaiian Studies.
As part of their community reinvestment project, students must participate in working with a community or like organization and then report and present their experience to each other and their instructors. Students consequently make use of their computer software skills by creating reports in Microsoft Word and slide shows in PowerPoint of the digital pictures taken.
The next visit to the lo`i will take place sometime in the fall. If you’re interested in this project, inquire about HTI’s Office Technology programs at 522.2700.
