Thursday - October 16, 2008A recent visit to the Rehabilitation Center of the Pacific’s art department was one of the many community service projects in which HTI students participated. On October 16th, students in the Office Technology Management day class volunteered their time, talent and giving hearts to patients recovering at the center.
The class was asked to help with the Center’s painting activities held on the outdoor lanai every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. When they arrived, HTI students jumped right in to help those patients who had already started painting. Other students helped change the canvass on pictures that were either not sold or left behind by former patients. When the frames were finished being re-canvassed, a few people painted a sealant on them that would seal the pores of the canvass. Once the process was completed, the frames were ready for the next set of people with an artistic flair about them.
After spending a too-short three hours with the patients, the students made new acquaintances, enjoyed the fine art of painting and gained a better understanding of the hardships experienced by those undergoing rehabilitation. A sense of giving back to community was felt by all.
