On Friday, April 13, 2012, Hawai`i Technology Institute
graduated 68 graduates in five programs for the 2011 – 2012 academic year.
The graduation celebration took place in the Lester
McCoy Pavilion Auditorium located at Ala Moana Beach Park in Honolulu.
HTI board directors, faculty and staff worked together to
set up and facilitate the ceremony to ensure that the graduates were given the
recognition and honor due to them on this special day. Family and friends came to show their support
– complete with bouncing babies, proud parents and doting kupuna – all proud of
the graduates from their lines.
Oz Stender, trustee at large and Chair of OHA’s Committee on
Asset and Resource Management, was this graduation’s keynote speaker. Oz spoke a lot about the characteristics for
success that most people strive to obtain and maintain throughout their
careers. His unique sharing of clichés
as formulas for success inspired and encouraged the local audience.
Iclynn Kekoa-Asperilla, a graduate in the Office Technology
Management class, offered a makana /
gift of hula to her class, the graduates and faculty and staff, and everyone
was enthralled with her graceful performance, adding the perfect cultural touch
to an evening of celebration of achievement!
