Hawaii Technology Institute is pleased to announce the debut of its
Health Information Technology (HIT) program in Spring 2010. This new program will add to HTI’s cadre of health programs which currently consists of Pharmacy Technician and Medical Assisting Programs.
The HIT Program prepares the student with the skills and knowledge for entrance into health information technology positions. Students will need to complete the internship/ practicum component of the program in a clinic, office, or hospital or any other approved heath care setting.
Health Information Technicians ensure the quality of medical records by verifying the completeness, accuracy, and proper entry into computer systems. They may also use computer applications to assemble and analyze patient data for the purpose of improving patient care or controlling costs. They are the caretakers and guardians of patient health information by ensuring the patient's interests in matters of privacy and security, information release, and guidelines regarding record access are maintained
Upon completion of the program, students will receive a Certificate of Completion in Health Information Technology. Students will be prepared for entry-level and/or advancement opportunities as health information technicians in doctors’ offices, clinics, or hospitals
The program consists of both technology and health courses with activities that are designed to mirror the scenarios in the workplace, making learning relevant and meaningful. Integrated in the HIT curriculum are life skills workshops designed to help students with coping with personal challenges that often impede successful program completion.
HIT is scheduled to begin Spring 2010 with options for both day and/or night classes contingent on student interest and enrollment!
